Musique/ Guy Mapoko : Du Rock Au Service Du Panafricanisme

Guy Mapoko alias ‘’The dirty voice’’ est un artiste-chanteur béninois. Il a la manie de mélanger les percussions béninoises au rock pour égayer et éduquer. En prélude au concert 100% rock qu’il donne à l’Institut français du Bénin ce vendredi, ce fils de Grand-Popo nous retrace l’histoire de sa carrière.

Bénin Int : Comment votre carrière musicale est-elle née ? Est-ce un héritage ?

Guy Mapoko : C’est un héritage familial. Mon père était un chanteur dans les chorales. Il n’a pas eu la chance de le matérialiser. Dans ma famille tout le monde chante. Mes frères que vous connaissez très bien, nous étions trois et nous avons fait sortir un premier album qui n’a pas eu grand succès. Mes sœurs chantent aussi. Je suis d’une famille de musiciens. C’est de là que tout est venu. Et je me suis engagé à amener très loin ce don familial. Et je voudrais que le public de mon pays et partout dans le monde me supporte. Je voudrais faire découvrir ce don familial à travers le monde entier et surtout faire connaître mon pays.

Combien d’années d’expériences ?

Je divise par deux les 45 ans que j’ai actuellement. Ma carrière musicale fait au moins 25 ans. C’est vrai, j’ai commencé à jouer très vite. A l’âge de 7 ans, je jouais déjà sur les podiums. Je fus guitariste. Après je suis devenu pianiste-chanteur. Donc, à l’âge de 7 ans ou 8 ans, j’étais déjà sur des podiums en train de jouer et de chanter. Donc disons 35 ans d’expériences au moins.

Que chantez-vous ?

En carrière solo et avec mes Frères Koudakoll, tous nos titres sont engagés, des titres de dénonciation. Nous dénonçons toujours ce qui ne va pas dans notre pays ou en Afrique. Nous essayons toujours d’éduquer. Vous connaissez les fameux titres ‘’Obada’’ et ‘’Ayikoungba xo’’. Dans le second nous dénonçons les achats anarchiques des domaines, des maisons. Le premier dénonce les vicissitudes de l’Homme. Je chante l’éducation, je chante la vie et j’éduque le peuple parce que l’artiste doit être d’abord un éducateur. Ce que je suis.

Vos chansons ont-elles les impacts escomptés sur les gouvernants et la population ?

Même quand le gouvernement fait la sourde oreille, il écoute quand même. Il sait que quelqu’un a fait une dénonciation. Nous conscientisons et réveillons le peuple, afin qu’il puisse se manifester au moment venu. C’est ça le rôle de l’artiste.

Votre regard sur la musique béninoise

La musique béninoise évolue très bien. Les artistes Béninois font beaucoup d’efforts mais malheureusement la promotion traine. C’est à l’artiste même de réaliser ses albums, de les promouvoir, de tout faire. Ce qui fait que parfois on est découragé, on a envie d’aller voir ailleurs. Nous, quand nous avions réalisé notre premier album, tout ce que nous avions gagné avait été encore mis dans la promotion. Tout ce qui a été gagné a été investi dans la promotion. Mais, nous ne regrettons pas parce que cela nous a donné de la visibilité, d’être connus de par le monde et dans les contrées les plus reculées du Bénin.

Des jeunes pensent que pour réussir, il faut immigrer. Qu’en pensez-vous ?

Le pays ne nous permet pas de rester et d’aller de l’avant. Moi j’ai dû quitter parce que je voulais relever d’autres défis. Tout ce que je faisais, je le faisais par moi-même. Immigrer n’est pas une mauvaise chose en soi. Seulement nous ne pouvons pas tous quitter le pays sinon qui viendra le construire à notre place ? La précarité en Afrique oblige certains à partir. L’Afrique est liée les mains derrière. Nous ne sommes pas encore indépendants. Le colonisateur ne veut pas nous laisser tranquille. Si jamais ce continent est libéré juste économiquement, il sera capable de grandes choses. L’Afrique a toutes les ressources mais on s’en va. Les intellectuels s’en vont travailler de l’Autre côté. C’est une autre forme d’esclavage que vit l’Afrique.

Vous êtes panafricaniste ?

Je suis panafricaniste. Je le suis et c’est pourquoi je dénonce l’exploitation de l’Afrique à travers mes chansons. Il faut qu’on libère l’Afrique pour voir si elle ne va pas se développer.
