Dans le cadre de son concert du vendredi 12 juillet à Cotonou

Guy Mapoko se produit en un grand concert à l’Institut français de Cotonou. Il est le membre de l’ex-duo familial, ’’Les Frères Koudakoll’’, très populaire au Bénin, à une certaine époque, de par ses tubes. L’événement a été annoncé à l’auditorium de l’institution concernée à travers une conférence de presse animée par l’artiste, le mercredi 10 juillet.

Les repères du spectacle tout feu tout flamme qu’a promis de donner Guy Mapoko, au cours de sa conférence de presse de l’auditorium de l’Institut français, du mercredi 10 juillet 2019. A en croire l’artiste, cette prestation sur scène donnera l’occasion aux mélomanes béninois de découvrir son troisième album intitulé, ’’Pardon’’, mais le premier qu’il réalise en solo, comportant pas moins de 14 titres dont un certain nombre seront joués au concert, a précisé le musicien. Surtout, en y venant, le public prendra connaissance d’un rythme musical inédit, de sa création, le ’’rockafrica’’. Il le définit comme de la musique rock « torturée, marinée à la sauce africaine ».

Selon ses explications, le ’’rockafrica’’ donnera à savourer une musique mettant en harmonie de la guitare, de la batterie et des percussions du cru instrumentiste purement béninois. « Vous n’allez pas le regretter ! », annonce au public Guy Mapoko que la Directrice de l’Institut français de Cotonou, Christine Le Ligné, présente à la conférence de presse, n’a pas hésité à qualifier de « Johnny Halliday béninois ».

Il faudrait rappeler que Guy Mapoko, un peu plus d’une dizaine d’années auparavant, avait créé, avec son frère, Kak, le Groupe, ’’Les Frères Koudakoll’’. Cet ensemble trouve, à son actif, deux albums, respectivement, ’’Choisis’’, paru en 1990, et ’’Bada’’, édité en 2007. Si le premier est passé inaperçu, le second, en revanche, a fait fureur au Bénin dans la seconde moitié de la première décennie de l’année 2000, dénonçant des tares humaines et sociales avec, par ailleurs, un titre resté mythique et immortel, ’’Bada’’.

Depuis 2012, Guy Mapoko vit à Montréal où il a réussi à se faire un nom dans la musique rock. D’ailleurs, ’’Pardon’’, le titre de l’album qu’il va faire découvrir au public béninois, est une adaptation plus thématiquement positive de ’’Bada’’. Quant à son frère, lui, il conduit sa vie et une expérience musicale à Atlanta, aux Etats-Unis. Et, Guy Mapoko n’exclut aucunement que ’’Les Frères Koudakoll’’ puisse se reconstituer pour la circonstance de la création d’un album commun.
